An AviSynth+ script editor designed for everyone — from amateurs to professionals.

Everything you need to restore

A complete restoration chain — no command line required.

Every filter is exposed through visual controls and presets, so you get professional results without writing a single line of an AviSynth script.

New
New in version 3.0

Shot-by-shot editing

The 3.0 update — the biggest since the software was created — turns AvyScan Lab into an editing program dedicated to film restoration: the film is cut into shots automatically from the detected splices, the overexposed frames at transitions are kept out of the export, and every shot gets its own filter chain — colour, degrain, stabilization, crop… Coloured timeline, thumbnail strip, merged export or one file per shot.

New Expert version
T

Titler — title cards

Insert a generated card before or after any shot — film title, chapters, end card — without touching the original frames. Multiline text, font, colours, position, fades, and a text slide that leaves the frame with motion blur, like in the movies. The preview shows exactly what the encode renders.

New Expert version

Rounded-corner mask

For film stocks whose picture gate is not perfectly rectangular: a black rounded-corner mask applied at the end of the chain, instead of over-cropping to make the corners disappear. Rectangle drawable like a crop, adjustable radius and projection-style feathered edge.

New Expert version

Projects

Save your whole workspace — clips, filters, settings, analyses and encoding parameters — in a single .aslproj file, and reopen it later exactly as you left it. No Save button: the open project is written automatically as you work.

Grain reduction

Temporal reduction with MVTools2 (mdegrain1/2/3), motion search, prefilter, and Fine / Medium / Strong grain presets.

Expert version

Dust & stains

RemoveDirt and RemoveDirtMC (motion-compensated) erase the spot defects typical of analog film stock.

New Expert version

Auto Degrain & Sharpness

Analyses your film's grain and sharpness on real renders, then offers three measured profiles — Natural, Clean, Very sharp — applied in one click. Combines Degrain, Sharpen and Warp Sharp in a single node.

New Expert version

Splice Cleanup

Special mode that automatically detects film splices and removes the 2 or 3 damaged frames around them. Analysis 4× faster, shared with Perfo Lock.

New Expert version

Image stabilization

Three methods: sub-pixel perforation locking (Perfo Lock), registration on an edge or pattern, or mechanical image stabilization. Removes gate weave. Analysis 4× faster.

New Expert version

Projector capture

Film the projection at 50 fps with the projector set to 16.66 fps: sheared (blended) frames are detected and removed automatically.

New

Video deinterlacing

Removes interlacing from video captures (DV camcorder, capture card, digitized VCR): motion-combed areas are rebuilt while stable areas keep their full definition. Frame rate and frame count unchanged. Included in the free version.

New

Reverse frames

Reverses the frame order for reels scanned or filmed backwards (film tail first). The filter automatically goes to the head of the chain, so analyses and the frame range work in the right direction. Silent films only. Included in the free version.

New Expert version

Frame-rate interpolation

Converts a 16, 18 or 24 fps film to 25 or 30 fps video by computing true in-between frames (motion compensation): fluid motion without changing speed or duration, soundtrack stays in sync. Protection mode against warped objects and clean cuts at scene changes.

Expert version

Sound track

Processing of films with sound tracks. Perfect picture/sound sync even when splices are removed.

Expert version

Colour correction

GamMac corrects colour drift between RGB channels. Ideal for films that have yellowed, blued or reddened over time.

Levels & gamma

Brightness, contrast, saturation, hue and gamma. The key parameter for restoring substance to underexposed vintage films.

Crop

Crop with automatic rounding to even numbers (YUV-compatible) and interactive drawing of the area to keep.

Expert version

Batch processing

Load several films in one session, give each its own settings, and run the entire list through a single batch encode.

Sharpening

Simple or edge-aware mode based on LimitedSharpenFaster — preserves smooth areas without amplifying residual grain.

Expert version

Custom filters

Build your own AviSynth filters with a graphical interface: sliders, lists, checkboxes. Import your .dll plugins and .avsi scripts.

Real-time preview

Embedded mpv player: every parameter change instantly regenerates the script and refreshes the preview.

Professional encoding

x264, x265, FFV1, UT Video, ProRes, TIFF/PNG/JPG sequences. CRF or bitrate, chroma 4:2:0/4:2:2/4:4:4, batch processing.

Accepted input formats

Video: .mp4, .mov, .mkv, .avi, .wmv, .webm, .m4v, .mpeg/.mpg, .ts/.mts/.m2ts, .mxf, .ogv, .3gp, .flv. Image sequences: .tif/.tiff, .png, .jpg, .bmp.

Presets

Save your favourite processing chains and reload them with one click. Global, per-clip and encoding presets.

Multilingual

English, French, German, Spanish and Italian — interface, scripts and user guide fully translated.

Simple workflow

From scan to final master in just a few clicks.

A few simple steps to go from your scan to the final master, while keeping every parameter under your control.

  • Drag and drop your files (.mp4, .mov, .mkv, .avi…) or a TIFF/PNG/JPG image sequence.
  • Choose your frame rate (16, 18, 24 fps) and source loader.
  • Insert filters in the graph and adjust in real time.
  • Save your chain as a preset to reuse it later.
  • Run the final encode or a multi-clip batch.
Graph editor

Build your chain in a visual graph.

Library on the left, graph in the centre, parameters on the right. Drag and drop filters from the library, reorder nodes with a simple drag, select one to tweak its settings in real time — without writing a single line of script.

Library

All available filters, sorted alphabetically. Drag any of them onto the canvas or click to append it to the end of the chain.

Graph

Your filters as cards connected by lines, from the IN pad to the OUT pad. Reorder by drag-and-drop, enable/disable with the bottom bar, delete in one click.

Parameters

Click on a node: its controls (sliders, lists, checkboxes) appear on the right with instant preview update.

Expert version

Built-in custom filter editor.

Import your .dll plugins and .avsi scripts, export your filters as JSON to share them with other users. Write your own AviSynth code: select an assignment like strength = 10 and AvyScan Lab immediately offers to turn it into an interactive control — slider, list or checkbox, which then appears directly in the software's main interface.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know before getting started.

Which film formats can I process?

AvyScan Lab is optimised for digitised analog films: 8 mm, Super 8, 9.5 mm, 16 mm and 35 mm. It accepts video files (.avi, .mp4, .mov, .mkv, .wmv, .webm, .m4v, .flv, .ts, .mts, .m2ts, .mxf, .mpeg, .mpg, .ogv, .3gp) and image sequences (.tif, .tiff, .png, .jpg, .bmp).

Do I need to know AviSynth to use the software?

No. All filters are exposed through graphical controls with presets. AvyScan Lab generates the AviSynth+ script for you. Advanced users can view the script under Info > Script preview and create their own custom filters via the built-in editor.

What is the difference between the free version and the Expert version?

The free version is usable with no time limit: the essential filters (grain, colours, levels, sharpening, crop…), presets, the 5 languages and every export codec are available, and encoding runs at full quality. It is limited to one clip at a time and custom filters are read-only. The Expert version unlocks image stabilization (perforation, edge, image), splice detection/removal (Splice Cleanup), dust and spot removal (Remove Dust), GamMac colour-cast correction, films with soundtrack, loading several clips in one session, batch processing and creating/importing your own AviSynth filters.
