Decodes the optical soundtrack straight from the scanned image, with no dedicated reader: track area and track type (variable density or variable area) set in a few clicks. The correction window removes hiss, hum and dropouts, repairs clicks and crackle (click cleaner), with A/B listening and a live spectrum, then keeps the sound in sync at export.

The 3.0 update — the biggest since the software was created — turns AvyScan Lab into an editing program dedicated to film restoration: the film is cut into shots automatically from the detected splices, the overexposed frames at transitions are kept out of the export, and every shot gets its own filter chain — colour, degrain, stabilization, crop… Coloured timeline, thumbnail strip, merged export or one file per shot.
Insert a generated card before or after any shot — film title, chapters, end card — without touching the original frames. Multiline text, font, colours, position, fades, and a text slide that leaves the frame with motion blur, like in the movies. The preview shows exactly what the encode renders.
For film stocks whose picture gate is not perfectly rectangular: a black rounded-corner mask applied at the end of the chain, instead of over-cropping to make the corners disappear. Rectangle drawable like a crop, adjustable radius and projection-style feathered edge.
For films shot with an anamorphic lens (Iscorama, CinemaScope…): the picture is widened by the lens factor — 1.25, 1.33, 1.5, 1.75, 2 or a custom value — to restore the proportions of the scene, with no loss of vertical resolution. Applied at the end of the chain, after restoration; zones, mask and title cards follow.
Save your whole workspace — clips, filters, settings, analyses and encoding parameters — in a single .aslproj file, and reopen it later exactly as you left it. No Save button: the open project is written automatically as you work.
